Center Announces Fall Industrial Advisory Board Meeting Dates

Save the Dates: The Center for e-Design has announced its fall IAB meeting dates of October 2-4, 2018 in Andover, MA. This year’s meeting features a tour of the Raytheon facility on October 2. Most of the meeting sessions will be held at the Holiday Inn Tewksbury/Andover. Registration details will be provided soon.

Penn State Site Hosts Industry Open House April 25

The Penn State department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering will hold its first industry open house on April 25, from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Leonhard Building, University Park, PA. The agenda includes a research poster showcase, opportunities for industry to partner with Penn State, and lab tours. Some of the tours include the Factory for Advancing Manufacturing Engineering (FAME), The Center for Healthcare Transformation (CHOT), the Center for e-Design, and Capstone. Refreshments will be served.

Center Announces Spring IAB Meeting Location

The Center for e-Design will hold the Spring Industrial Advisory Board meeting in Portland, OR, April 10-12 at the Residence Inn Downtown/Riverplace. Meeting registration opens January 2, 2018. Check the website for updates about sessions and tours. Click here for more information.

Wayne State Partners with Cisco on State Digital Acceleration and Digital Manufacturing Center

This recent news release features the State Digital Acceleration and Digital Manufacturing demonstration center. The Digital/SMART Manufacturing Demonstration Center will be supported by the State Digital Acceleration program and established at the high-bay of the Manufacturing Engineering building. The demonstration center houses a variety of advanced manufacturing equipment/software (provided by e-Design Center member companies including Ford, Wenzel, and ESTECO), connected together with secured systems infrastructure with Cisco. The demonstration center will provide industry partnered connected manufacturing environment for e-Design research projects and to educate the next generation workforces in the coming evolution of manufacturing. Center for e-Design Partners Meet in Charleston, SC

Center for e-Design partners and guests met in Charleston, SC, September 26-28. Semi-annual Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) Meetings are an opportunity for face-to-face collaborations among e-Design members. Industry members, research faculty, and students review the progress of current projects and the potential of proposed projects; discuss the performance of the Center relating to research areas, test beds, education, and technology transfer; and investigate prospective research topics to address current and future industry needs.

Penn State site of the Center for e-Design adds video

The Penn State site of the Center for e-Design, an Industry/University Collaborative Research Center, works to incorporate new technologies across disciplines in order to improve the design and manufacturing processes of products and services in a variety of industries, today and in the future. IMSE chair Kremer receives ASME Spria Outstanding Design Educator Award

Gül Kremer, professor and C.G. “Turk” & Joyce A. Therkildsen Chair of the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering at Iowa State University, has received a top American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) award for advancing engineering design education. Kremer was named this year’s ASME Ruth and Joel Spira Outstanding Educator Award winner “for outstanding achievements in design curriculum development; sustained contributions to workforce development through design education and research; and exceptional leadership within ASME’s Design Engineering Division, particularly in building the design education community.” The link to the full article is here.

Lewis receives Design Automation Award from ASME

Kemper Lewis, professor and chair of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in UB’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, is this year’s recipient of the Design Automation Award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). The award recognizes his “seminal contributions to the field of design automation that have advanced both theoretical development and practical applications in many areas, including complex systems design, design analytics, and decision theory.” Read more here
